Dear Parents/Carers

Half term is upon us, hope you have a good week.

Appointments
If you make an appointment to see a member of staff and you cannot make it, please phone the office to reschedule the appointment.  There were several parents / carers that didn’t turn up for the consultation evening even though appointments had been made.  This resulted in teachers having long gaps between appointments and it now means they need to set aside yet another time to meet these parents / carers.  Thank you for your co-operation regarding this.

Reading Recovery
We need adult helpers to run a programme called 15 Minutes a day.  As the name suggests you would work with one child for about 15 minutes every day.  If you cannot commit to this but can manage 2 or 3 days a week please let us know and we could team you up with another volunteer.  There is no previous experience required, we would give you the necessary training.  For some children it has been life changing as it has moved them past the stage where they were stuck and given them a love for reading.

Emergency Contact Form (Primary School Only)
There are still many of you who have not handed in your yellow emergency contact form.  Please can you ensure that this is handed into the office on the first day back after half term.  This is very important because if we need to contact you in an emergency and we do not have the correct telephone numbers this can cause a great deal of problems.

Does Your Child Wear Glasses
Please come in or drop us a note if your child needs to wear glasses at school/nursery.  Some children have been prescribed glasses and their glasses have been brought to school but because we have not been informed we have not ensured that they are wearing them.  Please let us know so that we can make sure that they are wearing them when necessary.

Poppy Appeal (Primary School Only)
After ½ term we will be sending Year 6 around the classes with poppies.  If you would like to support this cause please send you child in with a donation (10p minimum please).

Tissues
Would you be willing to donate a box of tissues to your child’s class?  It would be useful to have a box of tissues available for children to use during the day; if they were donated it would be a big saving for us.  Thank you.

Barnet In Bloom
This morning we had the Mayor of Barnet coming to our assembly to give us our award for coming second in the category of Best School Garden.  Our garden area has certainly brightened up the children’s entrance to the school.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Richards and Mrs Brimson (Mr Richards too) a few parents/carers and children of the gardening club, for their wonderful efforts.

Recycling
Thank you to all the parents/carers who have recycled their old clothes and shoes at school, we have been given a cheque for £88 from LMB.  The Guide Dogs for the Blind have received 32 ink cartridges and 18 mobile phones which raises funds for their charity.  Please keep up the good work.

Breakfast Club (Primary School Only)
We have periodically asked parents/carers if they need the facility of a Breakfast Club.  Up to now the demand has not been sufficient to warrant this.  Circumstances change so I am asking again. If you would use this facility, please fill in the slip below and send it back to me by 7th November.   If there is sufficient take-up now I will then endeavour to get this venture up and running.

Parent/Carer Questionnaire (Primary School Only)
Thank you for taking the time to complete our electronic questionnaires (in May) and the supplementary questions, 75 families completed the original questions and 11 families returned the additional question sheets.

Here is the feedback from this second round of questions.  Of the 11 families returning the form:

Q19 School Lunches: 100% thought school lunches were good and children enjoyed the food
Q23 School clubs:  7 families thought the clubs offered were adequate
4 families would like more clubs/sports to be offered
We are exploring this and extra facilities will be available when the school is rebuilt.
Q24 Are you able to come to school at anytime?: 10 families agreed the school was accessible
                                                                                1 family disagreed
We take your views very seriously and appreciate all your comments, please remember that you can come along to our Forums with the Senior Leadership Team to discuss your concerns.  These happen every term.
Many thanks for your support.

Playtime Snacks (Primary School Only)
As you are probably aware, all our infants have fruit supplied by the National Fruit Scheme every morning at playtime.  It is a long time for children to go without food from breakfast to lunch time. Please send your Junior child in with a healthy snack e.g. cereal bar (but must NOT contain nuts), piece of fruit or vegetable to eat at playtime.

School Dinners (Primary School Only)
Once again, please ensure that Dinner Money is paid every MONDAY or for the whole half term.    The cost for the next half term is £68.25 or £9.75 per week.  Please make cheques payable to Fairway Primary School.  Please remember that if you would like to change from school dinners to packed lunch or vice versa you MUST give the office two weeks notice.

Christmas Dinner (Primary School Only)
Christmas dinner will be on Wednesday 17th December.  If your child is on packed lunch but you would like them to have Christmas dinner, please let the office know by Friday 28th November.  The cost of the lunch is £1.95.  We need to know by this date so the right amount of lunches can be ordered.  (All children will get a party hat.)

Class Assemblies
Class assemblies are on Tuesday mornings at 9:10am.  The dates are as follows:-

Year1                  -         25th November
Year2                  -        11th November
Year5                  -         9th December
Year6                  -        2nd December

The children really like you to be there to support them.  You may bring younger siblings but please sit by the door if you do, so you can leave if they become restless.
