Assessment is central to the provision of a broad and balanced curriculum.
It is a vital part of the planning, monitoring and evaluating. Teachers
are constantly monitoring progress by assessing pupils in a variety
of ways including observation, testing and evaluation of work as well
as discussion with children. Without assessing pupils, we wouldn’t
be able to teach them effectively.
Assessments are made for different purposes:
• during the year to enable the Class Teacher to monitor
individual children’s progress.
• statutory End of Key Stage Assessments (commonly known as
SATs) at the end of Key Stage 1 and 2. These can help to evaluate
standards of achievement.
• to ensure continuity and progression throughout the school.
