11th February 2010

Dear Parents/Carers

Half way through the year already!  Only 11 months now until we go into our new building.  It’s really going up quickly and it’s so exciting to see our new school taking shape.  I’m going on to the site after half term for a tour around, hard hat and wellies at the ready!

Healthy Schools
We have all been working hard towards becoming a healthy school.  I am pleased to tell you we have been successful and have now officially been awarded ‘Healthy School Status’.  A great big thank you to Mrs Richards for all her hard work towards this important award.

Electricity
You’ll be pleased to know there will be no more power cuts at Fairway Primary School as we are now on the National Grid.

Lunch Boxes (Primary School only)
Please ensure you send your child to school with a lunch box that contains a balanced diet.  Remember no sweets, fizzy drinks or nuts.  Some children have been bringing their packed lunch in a carrier bag and this has caused many problems so please make sure the lunch comes in a proper lunch box with your child’s name on it.  Many thanks for your co-operation.

Fun Club (Primary School only)
As you know Fairway are running their own After School Club called “Fun Club”.  Please do not call the school office but call the Fun Club number (07503 714 224) if you wish to book your child in for this club, need to change your present arrangements or just need to speak to someone regarding the club.  If no one answers please leave a message and someone will get back to you.

Individual Photos (Primary School only)
On 25th February the children will be having individual and siblings photos.  If you do not want sibling photos, please drop us a note to let us know.

Talking to Teachers before School (Primary School only)
This is now becoming a problem, especially in the Reception class.  If you need to speak to your child’s teacher, please do not speak to them before school as this is affecting a prompt start to our day.  If you want to speak to the class teacher, this must be done after school.

Salaam
Salaam is a project in Barnet running at Colindale Primary School for two days over half term for disabled children, their siblings and friends.  If you have a child aged 8 – 19 and would like to know more the website is www.salaamability.co.uk or email info@salaamability.co.uk.

Parents we need your help
We run a 15 minute a day reading programme for some children.  If you have any spare time and would like to help us with this (training provided) please come and speak to Mrs Popat (Teaching Assistant).

Zig Zag and yellow lines
Please, please do not stop on the zig zags in front of Fairway Primary School, Northway School or the Children’s Centre at any time.  Some parents/carers have been doing this on a regular basis.  It is a traffic offence to stop and it causes a lot of problems and a health and safety risk to our children.  We are also experiencing a problem with parents/carers parking on yellow lines.  The new yellow lines opposite the Primary School entrance must not be parked on at the times specified on the posts by these lines (8:00am – 5:00pm).  We have had Police Officers moving parents/carers on from these spaces as it is a traffic offence.  So please do not stop on these yellow lines any where along The Fairway during the times specified.

School Dinners (Primary School Only)
Once again, please ensure that Dinner Money is paid every MONDAY or for the whole half term.    The cost for the next half term is £58.00 or £10.00 per week.  Please make cheques payable to Fairway Primary School.  Please remember that if you would like to change from school dinners to packed lunch or vice versa you MUST give the office two weeks notice.

Non Uniform Day (Primary School Only)
Don’t forget this Friday is the last day of half term and non uniform day. If children wish to participate they need to bring in £1 otherwise they can wear their uniform.

I hope you have a good half term.  Let’s hope the next half term brings us some warmer weather.  Don’t forget the important dates on the back.

Yours sincerely

Ms Jan Parker
Head Teacher
