Dear Parents/Carers
Welcome back to a new school year. I hope you all had a very good summer holiday. A special welcome to all of the new Nursery and Reception Class parents/carers. I am confident that your children will enjoy their time with us and settle in quickly at Fairway.
New Arrangements
Y1 – Y6
There have obviously needed to be some changes to our normal routines because of our new building. We have trialled having Y1 and Y2 leaving from the main entrance and Juniors in playground, but it doesn’t seem to be working particularly well so we will now try this:
ALL CHILDREN WILL BE TAKEN TO THE PLAYGROUND BY THEIR TEACHER OR TEACHING ASSISTANT and parents/carers can then collect their child/children. Please only collect them from inside the playground and not take them from their line on the way to it as we will then not know if the children have been collected. Thank you for your co-operation.
Reception Class
Reception Class will now start at 8:45am so this gives time for parents/carers to take their other child/children to the primary school. Also when Reception children start full time they will finish at 3:15pm again giving time to collect siblings. Please be prompt to collect your children.
School Bags
We need your help on this one! Our cloakrooms are very small so we can no longer allow children to bring large bags into school as they are a fire risk. Their PE kits including tracksuits should be put into their PE bag and there are stored in boxes in the classrooms. There should be very little else to bring into school except their reading books and their reading or homework diary, so please give your child/ren book bags or a small carrier bag only. Thanks again for your co-operation regarding this.
Park Play Y1 – Y6
The playground area is the only space for our children to play, so in order to have more space and some grass we are allowing children to play in the park when it is dry. A risk assessment has been done and staff (always 2) will supervise children in this area. Children are not to go beyond the climbing frame therefore will not be using the other play equipment. Staff will check the area before the children are let in to the park.
Emergency Contact Sheet Yr 1 – Yr 6
Parents/carers in all classes, with the exception of Nursery and Reception will receive a new (blue) contact sheet. Please fill this in as soon as possible and return it no later than Friday 18th September. Note that the emergency contacts numbered 1, 2 and 3 are in addition to the parent/carer information. We will always ring the parent/carer first and then use the other contacts if necessary. Also, please ensure that dietary restrictions are included in the medical conditions section even though it may be for religious or other non medical reasons. This is vital information for us and 100% return is necessary. If you do not receive a form, please come to the office to collect one as soon as possible. It is important that we have the two other names on the contact form filled in so that, if for any reason we cannot contact you in an emergency, we have other people we can try. Please also give us your email address, that way we can save paper and email you newsletters etc.
Tea Tour 14/9/09
If you haven’t seen our new school yet, come for a cup of tea on Monday at 3:00pm and then have a look around.
Collecting and Delivering Children
Please remember always to let staff know who is going to collect your child. Nursery to Yr 2 children are only allowed to be collected by the people you have informed us about.
Dinner Money
Once again, please ensure that Dinner Money is paid every Monday (£2.00 a day x 5 days = £10.00 a week). If you have an entitlement to Free School Meals (even if you are not taking it up) please can you bring up to date documents into the office by Friday 25th September.
PE Kits (Rec – Y 6)
Please ensure that your child has a PE kit in school permanently. It should only be taken home at half term to be washed. PE kit consists of:
Plain white T shirt (no collar)
Black shorts
Plimsolls
Drawstring bag for storage (available from Mrs Watt at school)
ALL PE KITS MUST BE NAMED – if your child’s is not named, please come in to collect it, name it and return it to school. Thank you.
Swimming
Y1 & Y2 will go swimming. All children need to wear a swimming hat (girls and boys). A voluntary cost of £1.50 per session would be greatly appreciated. Reception class will start lessons after Christmas.
Naming Clothes
Please remember to name all items of school uniform. It is very important to name all clothes especially the younger children in the Infant department. Reception, Y1 and Y2 please name socks and pants as well, as these items will be removed when swimming.
Head Teacher Drop Ins (Ms Parker)
The parent /carer drop ins are at 3pm on a Tuesday. It is not a time to talk about your child’s progress, as this should be done with the Class Teacher, but any other matters you wish to discuss.
