16th March 2010
Dear Parents/Carers
Has Spring arrived? I do hope so! Just a quick newsletter to update you.
Polling Day – Thursday 6th May
Please note that Reception, Nursery and the Children’s Centre will be open on this day. It will only be children in Years 1 – 6 in the main building who will not be in school that day.
Staffing (Primary School)
Mrs Turner-Arbeid, Inclusion Co-ordinator and SENCO will be leaving at the end of the term. I would like to take this opportunity to thank her for the work she has done at Fairway. Miss Burnett (Deputy Head Teacher) will take on this role next term and we are advertising for a replacement who we hope will start in September.
Class Photo (Primary School)
Class photos will be on the 27th May. Please send your child in to school in SHIRT (not polo shirt) AND TIE on that day. Thank you.
School Dinners (Primary School Only)
Once again, please ensure that Dinner Money is paid every MONDAY or for the whole half term. We have been informed by the Borough that the cost of school dinners will be going up next term by 5p per day – will be £10.25 per week. The cost for the next half term is £53.30 or £10.25 per week. Please make cheques payable to Fairway Primary School. Please remember that if you would like to change from school dinners to packed lunch or vice versa you MUST give the office two weeks notice.
Educational Visits & the PTA
It has been on the cards for quite some time now and I am afraid the PTA pot is now empty! From now on parents/carers will be asked to pay the full cost for educational visits. It is a voluntary contribution but if we find parents/carers are not paying the full amount we will need to cut back on the number of visits children do. This is unfortunate but the school budget cannot subsidise all visits. It would be great to start the PTA going again, it helps the school in so many ways so if you are interested please come and see me.
Nurturing Programme
After the Easter break Barnet’s parenting team are running a parenting course called the Nurturing Programme. It is designed to help parents build on the skills they already have and introduce new ideas that may help to manage behaviour and improve or develop family relationships. Below are some comments that parents who previously attended the group have made…. “I’ve enjoyed meeting new people and being part of a group”..… “the course has opened my eyes for more possibilities in my life”….. “there is a relaxed and friendly feeling” ……. “The rest of the family listen to me more than they did before” ……. “I am becoming a lot calmer” ……. “We are all talking more”.
Spaces for this course are limited and will be offered on a first come first served basis. If you are interested in attending this course please contact the school Parent Support Adviser: Ciara Jeffries on 07931 828 425 or talk to the office at school for more information.
Concerns or Issues
If you have any concerns about your child's schooling or issues with other matters relating to the school, the procedure is to bring these to the attention of your child's class teacher. If the matter cannot be resolved to your satisfaction it may then be forwarded to the Head Teacher or to a member of the Senior Leadership Team. Any matters remaining unresolved after following this procedure may be brought to the attention of the school governors by writing to the Chair of Governors at the school address.
There will be another newsletter at the end of term.
Yours sincerely
Ms Jan Parker
Head Teacher
