20th October 2009

Dear Parents/Carers

I can’t believe it is nearly half term already.  Here are some updates for you and a few reminders.

Parent/Carer Consultation Evening for Yr 1 – Yr 6
Please remember that Parent/Carer consultation evening is on Wednesday 21st October or Thursday 22nd October.  If you haven’t had a form to fill in please come to the office as soon as possible.

Half Term Works
There are some extra works going on at the Primary School during half term.  Fire doors will be put on all of the cloakrooms, therefore making these even smaller.  It is very important that children only bring a book bag or a carrier bag to school to keep in the cloakrooms, larger bags cause a hazard and for Health & Safety reasons are not allowed in school.
Fences will be erected around the ‘mud’ near the playground but please try your best to stay on the path until then and please also help us by keeping younger siblings on the path.
The area in the outside area in the reception class will be concreted over so they have a larger area to play and also a surface will be put over the ramp to stop it being so slippery in wet weather.
The new school seems to be going on at a pace and pilings have now been drilled for the foundations.  It won’t be long before we see some external walls going up!

Reception – Yr 6 Non Uniform Day (£1)
This happens on the last day of every half term.  All the money is spent on the children so if they are in their own clothes please remember to send in £1.  On these days footwear must be suitable, so only school shoes or trainers should be worn and also no jewellery as usual.

Tissues
Would you be willing to donate a box of tissues to your child’s class?  It would be useful to have a box of tissues available for children to use during the day; if they were donated it would be a big saving for us.
Thank you.

Healthy snack at morning break – Years 3 – 6 only
It is quite a long time for the children to go without any food from breakfast to their lunch so please remember to send your child in with a snack for morning break.  This must be a healthy snack e.g. a piece of fruit, a cereal bar (no nuts) or a few plain biscuits such as digestives.  Please ensure that the snack is a healthy option.  Thank you.

School Dinners Fairway – Rec – Yr 6
Once again, please ensure that Dinner Money is paid every MONDAY or for the whole half term. The cost for the next half term is £70.00 or £10.00 per week.  Please make cheques payable to Fairway Primary School.

Art Project  Years 1 – 6
The hoardings around the school are necessary but pretty boring so we are going to jazz them up a bit!  All children in Years 1 - 6 and all staff will be able to paint their faces on them.  In order for this mural to last 16 months out side, we will need to use gloss paint.  Children will be in small groups to do their painting and on this day (you will be notified) please send them in to school with a change of clothes e.g. something old to wear so if they get paint on them it won’t matter.  If you don’t want your child to be involved, please come in to school or drop us a note.

Parking and dropping off
Please do not stop on the zig zag lines anywhere along ‘The Fairway’.  With all the building work going on, it is now even more dangerous.  Please also do not park on the yellow lines at the times specified.  There are now new lines opposite the Primary School entrance so please do not park on them.  The safety of the children is important to everyone so please do your utmost to make our school a safer environment.

Coats
Autumn is well and truly here.  Please ensure that your child from now on comes to school with a coat, even if the weather is mild and dry when they leave home in the morning.  They all enjoy their playtimes and they are very important and necessary to all the children.  They will be taken out to play even if it is raining (not when it is really pouring!) so they will need their coats.  Thank you.
