30th June 2009
Dear Parents/Carers
This is the penultimate newsletter of the year. Please read it carefully as it has lots of important information.
Staffing update
I am thrilled to tell you that we have appointed a new Deputy Head Teacher for this September – Claire Burnett. She comes very highly recommended. She is a very experienced teacher and has been a Deputy Head Teacher before. She is, at present, an advisory teacher for literacy for the London Borough of Barnet. She has done some work with us on literacy which has already made an impact. I’m sure you will warmly welcome her on to our staff at Fairway.
Mrs Friedmann (TA) will be leaving at the end of this term. She now wants to be a teacher so is going back to University to do a year’s course. We wish her luck and thank her for her commitment to Fairway.
Barnet Music Festival
Year 4 did us proud at this year’s Music Festival at the Artsdepot last Wednesday evening. They sang beautifully and were a credit to Fairway.

Take 1 Picture Week 6th– 10th July
We are celebrating ‘Barnet Celebrates Achievement Week’ at Fairway by having a special week. All children will be involved, in small group work in mixed ages from Reception to Yr 6, in workshops. The stimulus for this week is a painting, (‘The Umbrellas’ by Renoir) hence the title, and the children will be doing lots of exciting activities. We would love you to share in this week so if you are free or can get some time off work we welcome you. Please ask at the school office for more details.
Building Works
Thank you so much for bearing with us. I know when they were putting in the pipe work and entrance for the temporary accommodation that the pavements outside were often limited in space. Most of the pipe work is now complete so the disruption should now be less!
Copthall District Sports
We did so well! We took children from years 3 to 6 to represent the School at this yearly event. It was a great day and the team did us proud.
We were awarded with several trophies/shields for:
Winner of the relay competition,
2nd place for boys in the whole competition
1st place overall winner for the girls.
So well done team!

Lunch Bunches
We will not be able to continue with Lunch Bunch birthdays’ until we have the new building complete. Our lunches will be prepared at Northway School and then transported here so it would be too difficult to include birthday cakes etc.
Parking
As you are probably aware parking, because of the rebuild, is now even more limited. This is causing some children arriving late for school. I’m afraid it will not get better in the foreseeable future so please leave home earlier and park further away and walk the last bit. This will ease the situation. Thank you.
Class Photographs
By now you should have received your child’s class photo. We have gone all modern – I hope you like it! Please read the instructions on your pack and return to school with the correct money by Wednesday 8th July. If you miss this date you will then have to deal directly with Tempest the photographers.
Birds’ nest news!
Last year, Year 6 made bird boxes as part of their Design and Technology work. These were placed around the school building. When the building was surveyed by the building company (Kier) they discovered that one of these boxes housed a nest of robins with their babies! The box will now remain untouched until the babies have fledged.
There’s only three weeks to go before the end of term but there’s lots of exciting things still happening before we finish.
Next newsletter will be with you the last week of term.
Yours sincerely
Ms Jan Parker
