Dear Parents/Carers

Just a short newsletter to update you on a few things.

Staffing
Mr Putman, Deputy Head Teacher, has been offered Headship at Deansbrook Junior School from September 2009.  Although he has only been with Fairway for a relatively short time, I am sure you will all agree with me that he has made a very positive impact here.  We are sorry to be losing him but we all wish him the best of luck in his new post.  Deansbrook are lucky to have him.
Mr Hirani will also be leaving us at the end of this term as he has decided to travel the world! He also has not been at Fairway long, but once again has been a very valuable member of staff.
They will both be missed by everyone at Fairway.
Interviews for these posts are happening shortly.  I will let you know their replacements as soon as possible.

Adopting Katie!
We have a new addition to Fairway!  Katie is a two year old orang-utan orphan.  She was rescued from a rain forest in Borneo and is now being rehabilitated in a Centre in Kota Kinabalu.  I was fortunate enough to visit this centre on my holiday and have adopted Katie for Fairway.  In assembly yesterday morning, the children enjoyed seeing the photographs that I took whilst I was there.  We are going to put a display up showing ‘Katie and a few of her friends’ so that the children can learn more about her and the rehabilitation centre.  We will get updates from the Centre on Katie’s progress and I will share these with the children in due course.  On 19th May we are also going to have an advisory teacher (Jo Gordon) from the London Borough of Barnet take an assembly as she worked as a volunteer with ‘Katie and her friends’ at the Centre in March of this year. She will bring along many more photographs and information about these amusing apes.

Class Photographs
Please don’t forget that class photographs are tomorrow, Thursday 7th May.  Your child/ren need to come to school as normal in their school uniform (you may wish to put them in their formal uniform – long sleeve shirt and tie – this is up to you).

The Year 6 End of Term Production Do You Remember the First Time
The Year 6 End of Term Production for parents/carers is on Monday 15th July at 7pm. They will also be performing at a special ‘Goodbye Fairway Primary School’ event for past staff and governors on Tuesday 16th July 2009.  If you know your child will not be available to perform on these two evenings please let Mr Smith know immediately as auditions will be taking place shortly.

Come and Look at Our New School
The artist’s impressions of our new school are now available for viewing in the entrance area.  It is a fantastic building and we are really excited about it.  We will also have a scale model next week so please come and have a look.
