Our aim, at Fairway Primary School, is “to provide a caring, happy environment, where the children can develop their potential to the maximum.” (PSHE Policy 2003)

We consider the personal, social and health education of each child to be a priority and believe that a child who is competent in the skills associated with PSHE will be a happy and fulfilled child and adult.
Junior children are voted onto a School Council, which meets weekly to discuss school issues from a child’s viewpoint. Circle Time is timetabled into each week and is an opportunity for children to share ideas and help each other to solve problems.

Through Health Education, children cover nine components. These are: substance use and misuse, sex education, family life education, safety, health related exercise, food and nutrition, personal hygiene, environmental aspects of Health Education and psychological aspects of Health Education. These components are taught at different levels of complexity throughout the school, with the exception of Sex Education, which is currently taught in Year 6. Parent / carers have the right to withdraw their child from the non-National Curriculum elements of Sex Education.
